Ik heb dit met een standaard 25 watt soldeerbout en harskern soldeer gedaan.
Niet te lang verhitten en aan de binnenzijde van het frame, dan gaat dit prima.

Voortgang: spuiten. Kleinspoor NS geel en Revell spuitklare anthracietgrijs 311-09 (moest toch nog verder verdund worden en dekt dan nog steeds enorm snel, ook een dun laagje. Lekker om mee te werken.)

I notice the major functional changes from the BR model to the NS model is that the lamp formations are different, as are the pantographs and bogies. Another, more cosmetic change which I noticed (knowing the originals) is that the second window from the left on the corridor side is an opening split window in our originals but appears to have been replaced by a single panel window in your refurbished vehicles.

I will attempt to remodel the lights and replace the pantographs, but I think I'm too old to be redesigning the bogies!! (I'm hoping to get a couple of models so I can reproduce the fleet's various liveries as I recall them.)

BTW, if you want to read of a youngster's :o totally illegal ride on Ariadne's "footplate" from Manchester to Sheffield and back, have a look at www.weezerd.eu/storylines! ;)

Hi Weezerd,

Fascinating to see that you are going to do the 'classic' conversion of a Triang EM2 to NS! If you are building in 00 it makes perfect sense. You may be aware that the Kleinspoor H0 model enjoys a popularity in England with the members of the British H0 society, but if you work in 1:76 that will be of slight importance to you.
Don't hesitate to post pictures of your project on this forum, they will be greatly enjoyed (is it indeed the Triang model you are using, or a different one (Silver Fox?)?

I think you have summed up the major visible changes there (except the livery of course). All vacuum pipes moved down towards the buffer beam, and the high-voltage electric connector was added on the left side of the buffer beam (the female counterpart being located very low down on the right side). The only visible change on the bogies, as far as I know, is the relocation of the sandboxes (from the front bar to the front ends of the bogie sides). If you model the cab interior, don't forget that the driver's seat moved to the right.
There seem to be a few changes at rooftop level: the signal horns are not there on the Dutch version and I think see more electric conducts going between the pantographs (see Arjen's pictures of the roof details on 1501 above in this thread).
     Also the oval British buffers were replaced around 1980-1981 or so by near-square ones (which look less attractive I think).
     If dating is important to you, beware that in the first few years there were some small adaptations in the livery: originally the loco number was not painted on the front ends, and, at least on 1501, the lower lamp armatures were originally yellow not grey. See the photographs at the beginning of this thread.
Just to satisfy my curiosity -- do you own a modern version of the Triang model? The wheels on my example are too broad to run well on present-day points. Does the model still have the 'dead' centre axle in the motor bogie?

Many thanks for the story of you cab experience on Ariadne. The rules against such things are more stricly observed over here, so not many of us could tell similar stories!

Hello again, Jan. Thanks for that detail info.

As for mine, at the moment I only have half a carcass, without a motor bogie!! I am trying to acquire parts on ebay to reconstruct the "whole thing"! If you looked you would find that used whole locos in working order (of the EM2) cost in the region of €500 !!!!!!

As I said, I'm getting on a bit and the main reason I'm hoping to build this is so that I can display it, along with buses which I drove in my time, as something to interest the grandchildren. I don't really expect to end up with an operating model.

As for the idle axle in the driven bogie? Triang no longer exist, but later Hornby driven bogies did also have this "feature", so I would expect the procedure is probably not unknown elsewhere.

The EM2 is no longer made or supported by Hornby, but there are rumours that Heljan might produce a new version. We shall have to wait and see.

BTW, the idea of a child riding the footplate was also very no-no in England too, but morals were higher when I was a lad and I was not at risk (except, as described, when we were passing the signal box!)
