From 7 February 2017, the frequency of the Rotterdam-Bayern Express will increase from five to six departures per weekThere will be more rail shuttle services in both directions: from southern Germany to the Rotterdam port and vice versa, according to an announcement from the operators European Gateway Services (EGS) and TX Logistik AG (TXL).“This sixth train will increase our capacity by around 15 %, which is absolutely necessary given the growing demand,” says Wolfgang Debusmann, director of the TXL division Maritime. “A daily connection means we can offer our customers a flexible system.” Mark van Andel, director at EGS, says: “The Rotterdam-Bayern Express is a viable alternative to the traditional route from and to Bavaria via the North German ports.” The Rotterdam-Bayern Express serves all the major container terminals in Rotterdam, at both the Maasvlakte and in the Maas/Waalhaven area. In southern Germany, the service will call at the Tricon Container Terminal in Nuremberg and the inland terminal München Riem in Munich. European Gateway Services and TX Logistik also offer pre-transport and post-transport services at both locations. Cargo which departs Rotterdam by train on day 1 is already at the southern German terminals on day 2, and on customers’ doorsteps everywhere in southern Germany and the north of Austria on day 3. In the other direction, the same transit time applies to the connection with the container shipping companies. A big advantage of the route via Rotterdam is the time saving. Many shipping companies use Rotterdam as their first and/or last port of call in Europe. This offers highly favourable transit times to and from southern Germany. While the deep-sea vessel sails to the North German ports after Rotterdam, the container is already en route to southern Germany on the Rotterdam-Bayern Express. This can reduce the journey time by two days. In the other direction, outbound cargo from southern Germany can actually be put aboard the train later and still make the connection with the deep-sea vessel in Rotterdam. Waarschijnlijk wordt hier trucking bedoeld en je leest niet vaak dat aan- en afvoer als "all-in" wordt aangeboden. Erg positief dus.
