Naar aanleiding van mijn modelspoor activiteiten op internet (zie onderschrift) werd ik benaderd door de maker van www.modeltrainprices.com
Het project van een Deen die prijzen van wereldwijd meer dan 800 winkels verzameld en vergelijkbaar maakt. O.a. van meer dan 60 winkels in Nederland (cijfers komen van hemzelf).
Is er iemand die ervaring heeft met deze website?
Ik heb wat rond zitten klikken, het ziet er best compleet en accuraat uit

Handige site, verwijst netjes door naar actueel aanbod,
scheelt een hoop zoekwerk zo te zien, wat wil je nog meer?

Prijs dus géén €414,00 maar €509,90 of wel gewoon de adviesprijs van Roco
Geen goede eerste ervaring dus ...

Hier eenzelfde ervaring. Eerste zoekopdracht. Zogenaamd 286 Canadese dollars. Kom je op de daadwerkelijke website uit, 286 Amerikaanse dollars!

Mijn (eerste-) ervaringen zijn wat positiever, maar heb alleen op 00 materiaal gezocht.
Aardig dat prijs op meerdere internationale sites getoond wordt!
Maar: Hattons en Rails of Sh worden niet getoond (geblokkeerd?)
En paar keer dat de loc idd vermeld staat op de betreffende Engelese website voor de aangegeven prijs, maar met onderop 'out of stock) o.i.d.
Dat is echter een bekend fenomeen bij Engelse websites wat je ook bij handmatig zoeken tegenkomt.

Ken de site al een tijdje, wat vooral opvalt: Veel dode links, prijzen die niet kloppen, aanbiedingen worden niet overgenomen, websites die eigen prijzen tonen naast de adviesprijs wordt alleen de adviesprijs van getoond (en staan dus onderaan in de lijst als een van de duurste winkels).
En natuurlijk veel missende winkels...
Het is een leuk hobbyprojectje van iemand denk ik, maar als je echt wat zoekt kom je met Google verder denk ik.

Persoonlijk vind ik het belangrijk dat je met de leverancier, (web)winkel een beetje een relatie opbouwt. Ik beperk me tot drie leveranciers, twee grotere en een niet zo'n grote. De meesten zijn allemaal hardwerkende mensen met een behoorlijk voorraadrisico. Er bestaat ook nog zoiets als een gunfactor. En de prijzen lopen echt niet zo ver uiteen dat je daar een hele website moet onderhouden en bekijken.

Dank voor de input. Ik heb inmiddels mailcontact gehad met de maker.
De prijsinfo wordt automatisch verzameld. Nav jullie input lijkt dat dus niet altijd goed te gaan.
Het is een soort hobbyproject waar hij ook wel wat geld/spullen in gestoken heeft.
Ik zal hem dit topic doorgeven, mogelijk kan hij het lezen met Google Translate en wat doen met de opmerkingen.
Ikzelf zit niet zo vast aan winkels. Heb wel wat winkels in de buurt waar ik af en toe kom. Meer voor onderdelen of kleine dingen. Nieuwe modellen koop ik zelden. Denk aan max 1x per jaar. Dan kijk ik toch vooral naar de prijs en laat ik het opsturen. Dus dan is zo'n website wel handig. Al kom je met Google er eigenlijk ook altijd wel uit.

For the 63139 (Roco Plan V, https://www.modeltrainprices.com/p/roco-63139/), I just checked in my database. Hobby Shop Modelbouw no longer has this product with the url I indexed, so that's why the link is dead.
I update the prices twice a week, so you managed to see it on my site before my bots noticed that the product was no longer available in the shop. A few days later, the bot automatically removed the Hobby Shop Modelbouw price from my site.
Not sure what can be done about this. My site will sometimes be behind shops removing products, just like Google is sometimes behind when websites remove pages etc :o
Took a look at the shop now and they have the product again with a different url than last time, https://hobbyshop-modelbouw.nl/product/63139-roco-ns-plan-v-419-treinstel-2-delig-dcc-digital-m-sound-ho/ My bot should notice that soon, so Hobby Shop Modelbouw will be listed again on the 63139 page on my site.

Have got a few Rails of Sheffield prices, for example https://www.modeltrainprices.com/p/hornby-r6786/
Haven't got Hattons indexed properly yet (their website is a bit more difficult than many other shops).
Also, it's not always possible for my algorithm to match shop prices with my list of products. For example if the shops don't write proper model numbers or have model numbers in a different format than expected (I'm continously improving the matching algorithm and can see that it gets better and better at matching shop prices with my list of products).
Good point about the out of stock issue. It is a bit of an issue that not all shops are very clear about what is in stock and what is out of stock. I have even seen shops where you don't get the out of stock message until you reach the payment page :o

Can you share a bit more about the bugs you have encountered on my site, so I can take a look and fix those? :)
Also, feel free to recommend shops that you think are missing (I have 984 shops on my site so far, but there are surely more shops out there that should be included).

I propose to improve two things
1. Add a filter for the scale
2. Improve the visualization of models in the search results. Especially when there is no photo. E.g. add the description.

True, plan to go for daily checks at one point. Limiting to twice a week at the moment to keep my server just a little bit happy, aka. not crashing from too much load.

i am not really into the lowest price, but i do get frustrated sometimes to find outdated links from google to web-shops where articles either no longer exists or are not in stock .
If your tool would handle that i would be very happy

Agree, it is annoying. The problem Google is having is the same as I have on my website, that our bots will be behind the websites we check (i.e. bot is checking the website and afterwards the website changes, before the bot checks the website next time).
On my website, I'm currently updating prices twice a week, so there's still a risk of encountering dead links through my site. When I get a better server at one point in the future (have to watch costs :P), I plan to update daily and then the risk goes down. But it will probably never go away 100%, only close to 100%.
I'm currently looking into if there is a way to detect if products are in stock or not, but it's no secret that it's a problem many shops aren't clear about this, i.e. as mentioned above I have seen shops where you don't get the out of stock message until you reach the payment page >:(

This probably concerns Eurorailhobbies.com. This webshop gives the opportunity to display prices in US Dollars or CAN Dollars. It is certainly possible that when you visit the webshop the prices are displayed in USD and not CAN Dollars specially for a first time or occasionally visitor
In the right upper corner of the website you can select between the currencies to be displayed.

Good suggestion, but that shop is already set to USD in my database, i.e. show their prices in USD on my site.
